Global Warming

What is global warming?
Global warming is the increase of the earth’s average surface temperature due to the effect of greenhouse gases. These gases are methane, carbon dioxide etc. These gases are a reason for the presence of human life on earth. They absorb the heat that would otherwise escape from earth. Global warming is the one of the biggest environmental problems in the last two decades.

.

What are greenhouse gases/greenhouse effect?
The reason it’s called the greenhouse effect is because the earth is just like a greenhouse. A greenhouse is made out of glass because it lets the visible rays of sun go through. It then gets absorbed by vegetation, plants and other coloured or black surfaces.  The main cause of these greenhouse gases is electricity, transportation and industry.
The impact on nature
Global warming has a big impact on nature. Due to global warming and pollution Coral reefs are suffering terrible bleaching with the highest dying record since 1980. The arctic is one of the worst places effected by global warming. It is so bad that by 2040 the region is expected to have a completely ice free summer or even earlier. Another big problem is that the sea levels are rising. This is linked to Antarctica because the ice is melting and becoming part of the sea. It is getting so bad that little islands are disappearing underneath the water. Many people are losing their homes because of this. It is time it stopped!
Why we need to stop global warming
It is crucial that we start trying to stop global warming. The longer we leave it the longer it’s going to take to defeat it. The fossil fuel industries use the misleading term climate change to lay off the media and give them a false sense of security. The idea of natural climate change decreases the seriousness of global warming. There are heaps of small and simple things that we can do to diminish global warming. Such as turning your lights off when you don’t need them on this is such a simple thing to but so many people forget to do it. Even plant a tree. Trees and other plants absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen.

A good report Olive. You make it clear that there is a problem and what we can all do to improve. I think it is important to understand though that those things won't fix our climate on their own. We will need governments to start investing more energy in renewable energy instead of coal.
