blog post #4 Feminism FAQ's

Q. What is feminist?
A. A feminist is a person who supports women and fights for women’s rights. Feminists believe in equality and equal rights, between men and women.

Q. Is feminism man hating?
A. No! As I said before, feminists believe in equality for both genders. Feminism is about empowering so to disempower would be against what we believe in (we being, feminists from across the globe). Some “feminists” turn on our belief‘s, criticising men, purely because they’re male. These incidents mainly consist of the “women are better than men” argument. But this is not feminism. Real feminists believe in equality and feminists are about the “women are equal to men” argument.

blog post #3 Using gay as an insult.

Recently I witnessed a discussion between three of my classmates. The conversation consisted of the incorrect use of the word gay.
Okay, I didn’t do anything about it, but I couldn’t, except I’m doing something now.
Using gay as an insult? I think it is completely immature. In this day and age especially, but obviously some people don’t know better. So maybe students need to be taught more about this.
So, does this happen often? Are students or people in general using “gay” this way? (It rhymed. I’m a poet)
If it is being used incorrectly within schools, struggling LGBTI+ youth can find it a lot harder to come to terms with their sexuality. LGBTI+ students are getting bullied a lot more than other students, triggering a lot more mental illnesses.

Q. Do you think children and social media is a good thing?
A. In a lot of ways it can be a bad thing, that’s why my parents are quite hesitant.
If you have heard of cyberbullying, you know there are more incidents than grains of sand on the beach. Some incidents can be quite minor but others major. Getting “stalked” and rude comments are small things you can notice while online.
Also, people can get tricked into sending private information or explicit photos of themselves. Usually, cyber hackers will save this and broadcast it to the entirety of its followers.
Cyberbullying can damage ones mental health. Lots of cases have been reported, where young people have been depressed, have had severe anxiety and even attempted suicides. Unfortunately, some suicides have succeeded.

Love - The feeling of affection.
Throughout history, couples have stereotypically consisted of a man and a woman. Now the situation is very different.
Lately, a lot more people have been open about their sexualities. Since the internet came about many people have been expressing their sexualities publicly for the whole world to see.  An example is how YouTube has become a way for people to express their feelings and thoughts openly in the comfort of their own home. YouTube has been a way for people to open up about themselves.

Equality- the state of being equal, especially in status, rights or opportunities.
Equality. It is a word that can be used in a lot of different scenarios.
I would like to think everyone in this world is treated equally. But that would be called lying. I certainly think this is unfair.
Some of the time, people take it upon themselves to say that they are above others. These people act as if they are superior for no good reason. Mostly people are judged because of their race, gender or sexuality. This doesn’t (always) make them narcissistic or bigoted. Sometimes their views have been influenced by how they were brought up as a child, if they were given false information and lots of other things that can impact their original opinion. Most people have heard how much of a problem this is now, but it has obviously been a problem for much longer.
